METRONET is now embedded into Perth’s planning framework, with the release of the Perth and Peel @ 3.5 million frameworks.
Focused on ensuring Perth can accommodate 3.5 million people by 2050, the frameworks guide development to create vibrant communities by making best use of existing and proposed infrastructure; and protecting important environmental assets.
Transport and Planning Minister Hon Rita Saffioti said METRONET will be a key part of this to support connected suburbs, reduced road congestion and focus on communities close to the future station precincts.
“We want to create dynamic communities where people live close to where they work; where they are supported by world-class public transport networks; and where they have parks and shops and all other amenities that contribute to the great Western Australian lifestyle,” she said.
"They lay the groundwork for highly liveable, vibrant new communities particularly through greater infill development around key transport links including the new METRONET stations.”
