As Perth’s population grows, more homes will be built, more blocks subdivided, and more apartment buildings erected. The need for longer term planning for alternative, higher-level transport solutions is necessary to better connect people with where they want to go and not impact liveability by way of congestion in our suburbs.
The Department of Transport is meeting with local governments in Perth's central subregion to understand the transport and land use requirements for each area, as part of early stage planning for light rail.
Throughout 2019, the information collected will be combined with strategic transport modelling and land use investigations before the next step, preliminary network identification, kicks off.
