First stop Parliament, next stop Ellenbrook

  • 26 September 2019

The Railway (METRONET) Amendment Bill 2019 was introduced into State Parliament today, as the first step to authorising construction of the Morley-Ellenbrook Line.

Once approved, the Morley-Ellenbrook Line will be the third railway line covered by the Railway (METRONET) Act, which was initially passed in November 2018 for the Yanchep Rail Extension and Thornlie-Cockburn Link.

The 21km line will spur off the Midland Line at Bayswater, run down the middle of Tonkin Highway, through land north of Marshall Road, along the New Lord Street alignment and finish in the growing Ellenbrook town centre.

Passengers leaving Ellenbrook by train will have a journey of about 30 minutes to the CBD, with the train stopping at stations at Whiteman Park, Malaga, Noranda and Morley, with Bennett Springs East to be added in the future, when planning in the area is finalised.

Thousands of local jobs will be created over the life of the project, with works to begin later this year as part of the major redevelopment of Bayswater Station.

Procurement for the main construction works for the Morley-Ellenbrook Line will begin in early 2020.
