Save the date: we’re opening the Thornlie-Cockburn Line! Perth’s rail network is expanding once again and to celebrate the opening of the new METRONET Thornlie-Cockburn Line, a community event will be held on Sunday, 8 June from 8.30am - 1pm.
To mark this major milestone, Thornlie, Nicholson Road and Ranford Road stations will have family-friendly activities, free food, live entertainment and community stalls showcasing local groups.
Come and explore new and upgraded train stations along the network’s newest east-west cross line connection.
For the first time, passengers can travel directly between the Mandurah and Armadale Lines, providing a direct link to Optus Stadium and beyond. Five new elevated stations on the inner Armadale Line will also be opening - Carlisle, Oats Street, Queens Park, Cannington and Beckenham - improving safety and reducing congestion, while new Nicholson Road and Ranford Road stations on the Thornlie-Cockburn Line bring train services closer to the growing community in the southern suburbs. Upgrades have also been made to Thornlie, Cockburn Central and Perth Stadium stations.
On the day, special event trains will be running, making it easy to check out the city’s newest line and elevated rail.
Every Sunday, SmartRider holders can travel free on all Transperth services - just tag on and off as usual.
From Monday, 9 June regular passenger services will begin. For more information on how to get to your new stations, you can find out more on the Transperth website.
The inner Armadale Line completion will be celebrated a few months later when the whole Armadale Line, including the new METRONET Byford extension Project, is complete.
