Going out with a bang

  • 22 December 2019

2019 was a huge year for METRONET with a number of major milestones had.

We kicked off the year in launching our Aboriginal Engagement Gnarla Biddi Strategy. The scope of our Level Crossing Removal program increased and in May TBM Grace broke through at Redcliffe Station.

Winter was coming, as were more announcements. In August Alstom was announced as the preferred supplier to build the new C-series railcars, and we announced preferred alignment and 5 new stations for the highly anticipated Morley-Ellenbrook Line project.

As we tracked into the third quarter, Forrestfield Station reached 50% completion, we saw over 5,500 of you at the Royal Show, our Sustainability and Public Art strategies launched and we added a new project to the mix, Lakelands Station.

The year ended on a high with a number of contracts were awarded, including two billion-dollar deals - Alstom to build the C-series Railcars and NEWest Alliance to build the Yanchep Rail Extension and Thornlie-Cockburn Link.

We now go into 2020 with six METRONET projects to commence major construction works.
