Thornlie-Cockburn Link extends a branch to Wooroloo wildlife

  • 25 March 2021

The METRONET team has again reached out to help in the wake of the recent fires at Wooroloo by supplying woolly bush foliage to local wildlife.

Works supporting the Thornlie-Cockburn Link project required some clearing of native vegetation within the rail reserve, including woolly bush foliage, which is a particular favourite of Red Kangaroos.

The fresh foliage was provided to Cockburn’s Native ARC wildlife and rehabilitation centre to help feed wildlife displaced by the devastating fires.

After being removed, Native ARC collected the foliage from METRONET contractor NEWest Alliance’s local site office, and transported it to the bushfire-affected properties to supplement remaining food sources.

February’s bushfire destroyed 86 homes and countless native animals, as well as their habitats, which can take months or even years to regenerate. Providing cleared foliage to these animals helps to ensure they retain their natural diet while they recover.

Native Arc (trading as WA Wildlife) runs WA’s first wildlife veterinary hospital and a recently launched rescue service. To find out more about Native Arc, visit Welcome to Native ARC Inc - Native ARC Inc

The Thornlie-Cockburn Link team helped out last year by providing eucalyptus foliage to Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre for their Black Cockatoos.
