Design tender released for future rail operations control centre

  • 9 February 2018

A tender from the McGowan government was released, calling for consultants to help develop a concept design that could become the Public Transport Authority’s future rail operations control centre. This will help with the creation of a project business case for the PTA.

In September last year, the Government committed $7.4 million over two years to plan the new signalling system known as Automatic Train Control (ATC) for the Transperth network. This will replace the older signalling network with an automated digital one allowing more trains to travel more frequently on the network.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said the new ATC System will use state-of-the-art technology and allow more trains to travel more frequently on the rail network.

"The expansion of METRONET will involve a higher frequency on various parts of the network, and a new control system will greatly assist efficient operation of our trains”.

The new tender will enable the early steps in a process to deliver the ATC project, which remains subject to Government approval.
