Artwork set to impress at Lakelands Station

  • 14 October 2022

Artwork integrated into the new METRONET Lakelands Station Project will reflect local Noongar symbols and cultural themes in a contemporary, abstract design.

Emerging Noongar artist Seantelle Walsh and Perth contemporary artist Sioux Tempestt will work together to create artwork for the station entryway and platform walls.

To develop public art at the future station, the two artists engage in ongoing consultation with local Bindjareb Noongar members of Winjan Aboriginal Corporation.

Year 6 students from Lakelands Primary School also provided their input into the design of the station artwork, taking part in a workshop with Seantelle and local Bindjareb Noongar Elder Elsie Ugle.

“This project is exciting because it has a strong community engagement aspect and provides the opportunity for a huge public art piece the community can enjoy for years to come,” Seantelle said.

Sioux uses many mediums and incorporates the natural form into her designs. Seantelle shares her culture and ideas through storytelling and Indigenous illustrative art.

The team have worked together on several art installations in the past, and are eager to commence the new station artwork design.
