Start the car: Mandurah Multi-Storey Car Park opens

  • 28 November 2021

We’re pumped on so many levels (three to be exact) because from tomorrow Monday 29 November, the METRONET Mandurah Station Multi-Storey Car Park will officially open!

This is the first METRONET multi-storey car park to open and will give commuters living in the Peel region access to 1,886 parking bays at the station.

It has three levels (ground plus two storeys, including an open-air top-deck), SmartParker machines, provision for future electric-car charging stations and a range of security and safety measures.

The new car park also features artwork that celebrates local native flora and fauna. The centrepiece is a “floating” metal fabrication artwork from South West artist Ian Mutch in collaboration with Bindjareb Noongar artst Corey Ugle, which incorporates native species such as leaves from Tuart trees, Mulloway estuary fish and Black Cockatoos.

In another touch, Noongar language metal stencilling saying Kaya Wandjoo Mandjoogoordup (Hello and Welcome to Mandurah) and Boorda (Goodbye) have also been incorporated in the paths connecting the car park with the station building. This is an acknowledgement to the Noongar placename, Mandjoogoordap, which means “the meeting place of the heart”.

The Mandurah Station Multi-Storey Car Park was joint-funded by the State and Federal governments and was developed to meet passenger needs and encourage more people to use public transport. Before the project started, typically the previous car park reached 90 per cent capacity by around 9am on weekdays.
