The iconic Baysie Bridge has been removed to make way for the new METRONET Bayswater Station!
The bridge terrorised truck drivers with its deceptively low 3.8m clearance but they can drive easy now, with the team dismantling the bridge walls before safely lowering the bridge deck.
Once complete, the newer, higher rail bridge will support the new station as the key intersection of the Midland, Airport and Morley-Ellenbrook lines, and have a clearance of 4.8m.
Signage from the old bridge will be donated to the City of Bayswater and retained for historic value or repurposed for use by local businesses and community groups.
The old Bayswater Station was demolished last week, allowing for piling works for the final two rail bridges and facilitating the connection for the METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line.
A Baysie Bridge Community Event will be held as a final farewell at Bert Wright Park on Sunday 30 April with a free sausage sizzle, live entertainment, face-painting and free popcorn and fairy floss.
