The new Ranford Road Bridge opened all lanes to traffic in late May with a plaque unveiling to mark the occasion.
The original bridge had only two lanes in each direction, but the new beauty boasts six lanes, a dedicated bus lane and a shared path for pedestrians and cyclists in each direction, catering for an estimated average two-way traffic flow of 43,000 vehicles a day.
Ten pre-cast concrete T-roff beams, produced locally in Hazelmere, form part of the mighty engineering feat and are known to be some of the largest ever built in Australia. The beams were installed to expand the existing bridge deck and make it 15 metres longer than the original structure.
