Thomas Road Bridge is now complete

  • 18 September 2023

The Thomas Road Bridge Project is now complete as a part of the METRONET Byford Rail Extension Project

Two lanes opened to traffic in November last year and the project has now completed the remaining two lanes.

Works on the project includes widening Thomas Road to four lanes which are now open to the public; connecting Butcher Road to Vlasich Road via a new underpass; building new shared paths below and on the bridge for pedestrians and cyclists and revegetation and landscaping.

The removal of the Thomas Road level crossing also brings benefits to the community with increased road safety and reduced traffic congestion.

Inclusive employment has featured in the project with more than 28,000 hours of work undertaken by an Aboriginal-led workforce.

The project team have undertaken initiatives to serve as a legacy for the local community. The projects include landscaped areas by a Noongar artist and paintings by local school children embedded in the new Butcher Road footpath under the bridge.

The Byford Rail Extension will extend the Armadale Line around 8kms south to the new Byford Station, supporting those in the wider Serpentine-Jarrahdale area with improved access to jobs, services and amenities.
