The Yanchep region holds great significance for the Aboriginal community as it is named after a bulrush reed that grows near lakes – Yandjip/ Yanget.
The celebration started with an Acknowledgement of Country followed by speeches and performances by Aboriginal children’s dance group, Koolangkas Kreate.

Students from the Indigenous Australian Engineering School, hosted by Curtin University, joined in the celebrations by participating in a traditional dance. The audience also enjoyed nine-year-old Tessa’s solo dance, performed to the familiar tune of Somewhere Over The Rainbow, and didgeridoo songs played by twins Ben and Robert.
