Preparing the Yanchep Line for passengers

  • 18 March 2024

The METRONET Yanchep Rail Extension Project reached a huge milestone at the end of 2023, running the first test train from Eglinton Station to Yanchep Station.

The extensive test train program will ensure all infrastructure and systems are tested for passenger safety and comfort and to ensure all railcars run safely, efficiently and smoothly.

Following this milestone, the project has updated the train control system to enable the Public Transport Authority Operations Control Centre to view all signalling and rail systems from Butler to Yanchep.

The next step is to commission the signalling system, paving the way for test trains to run at full speeds of up to 130 km/h, and for train drivers to start a familiarisation program to get acquainted with the new stations and route.

The Yanchep Rail Extension is expected to open for passenger services by mid-2024.
