Downer, the contractor for Denny Avenue Level Crossing Removal project, has smashed through their proactive waste recovery targets and is driving best practice for waste management.
Achieving a 99 per cent rate of clean excavation spoil reprocessed and reused for water retentive mulch, soil and fill products for the land development and building industries, amongst others.
A 98 per cent rate of other construction waste was diverted from landfill by separating and processing it for reuse. This included materials such as bricks, pavers, concrete, steel, timber and asphalt which has been reused in other projects around the state.
One hundred per cent of all green waste has also been reused, by either donating it to local animal shelters and City of Armadale for use as perches or food for injured or rescued animals, or where it was not suitable for this, it was mulched and used for landscaping around the City.
These targets were driven by an ambitious Construction Resource Efficiency and Waste Management Plan developed and implemented by Downer, in line with METRONET’s Sustainability Strategy.
