First step in bid for Infrastructure Australia funding

  • 21 August 2017

Business cases for two key METRONET projects – Thornlie-Cockburn Link and Yanchep Rail Extension – were submitted to Infrastructure Australia as early advice for the formal funding request.

The METRONET team is now working on project definition plans for the 13.8km Joondalup Line extension to Yanchep and the 17.5km connection between Thornlie and Cockburn Central stations.

The Yanchep Rail Extension will include three stations with new surrounding precincts, at Alkimos, Eglinton and Yanchep - each of which will be an accessible and vibrant community asset.

The Thornlie-Cockburn Link will have new stations at Nicholson Road and Ranford Road in Canning Vale and major modification to Cockburn Central and Thornlie stations.

The project definition plans, due in early 2018, will also include details on how the heavy rail investment will be the vehicle to create communities around the stations with appropriate density and a variety of land uses.

More information on the Thornlie-Cockburn Link and Yanchep Rail Extension can be found on the project pages.
