The realigned section of Dundas Road in Forrestfield is now open to public. The road now diverts around the site of the future Forrestfield Station making it safer for workers and motorists.
As a result of the new road opening, the section of Dundas Road between Maida Vale Road and Imperial Street will close. This is where Forrestfield Station and the associated feeder roads will be built. The Dundas Road and Imperial Street intersection will also close. This will allow backfilling of the southern retaining wall to continue and works to begin at the intersection, which will become the station entrance/exit for buses. The 8.2m high wall is held securely in place by more than 100 counterforts which supports the 18 tonne wall panels as well as the backfilling which is required to raise the ground level at the station by up to 6m.
The realignment of Dundas road is part of the $1.86 billion Forrestfield-Airport Link project jointly funded by the Western Australian ($1.37b) and Australian ($490m) governments.
