An industry briefing on the METRONET Railcar Program was attended by more than 200 local business representatives today (12 December 2018).
Hosted by the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JTSI), with the support of Public Transport Authority (PTA), local businesses interested in helping deliver the 246 new railcars for Perth heard from JTSI, PTA and the three shortlisted consortia tendering for the main contract, on how they can be involved.
Networking opportunities also allowed industry and local suppliers to discuss what skills, products and services currently exist within WA and how they can support the Government’s target of 50 per cent local content to manufacture the new railcars.
Copies of the presentations, along with information on the current rounds of the Local Capability Fund (providing eligible businesses with up to $20,000 in funding to assist them to prepare for work on the project) are available at the WA Industry Link portal.
The Railcar Program will deliver 102 new railcars (17 six-car sets) needed for METRONET projects and 144 railcars (24 six-car sets) to replace the ageing A-Series trains. The State Government is committed to ensuring the Railcar Program creates opportunities for Western Australian businesses and has set a target of 50 per cent local content. More information is available at the project page.
