Greener pastures for METRONET

  • 1 December 2020

METRONET has officially registered for a Green Star Volume Certification under the Green Star Railway Stations v1.1 tool.

A key objective under the METRONET Sustainability Strategy is for environmentally sustainable design (ESD) to be applied and incorporated for all new METRONET stations and buildings.

Registering for the Green Star Volume Certification is an important step along the way.

The Volume Certification Approach enables common design elements to be certified once and then applied to future registered individual station projects to achieve a Green Star rating.

Volume certification enables replicate sustainable design elements across multiple sites and projects for easier certification. The system involves less documentation, lower fees and costs, faster submission turnaround and a greater certainty that common design, processes and materials comply with best practice benchmarks.

Green Star is an independent sustainability certification scheme (Green Star – Railway Stations) offered by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).

While ESD will be integrated into all METRONET stations, the formal Green Star third-party certification will be focused on the more significant station developments.
