Kelmscott still a hive of construction activity

  • 16 August 2021

After the excitement of the first car using the underpass back in April, work has continued on multiple fronts with a focus on road works including relocating critical underground services infrastructure for water, gas, power, telecommunications, sewerage and drainage.

But not all works revolve around the relocation of utility services. The current Transperth ‘overflow’ car park on Railway Avenue just south of Kelmscott Station is being extended to the south and will be increased by approximately 40 bays.

Also, on the west of the railway, the new high-quality shared path is under construction, including having its own bridge being craned into place in July weekend. The new path will be positioned on the bridge over the underpass to allow users to travel uninterrupted to or from Kelmscott Station to ensure an easy journey.

Towards the end of the year, focus will move to the project’s major civic improvements including public art, landscaping through the town centre and creating a new station plaza, and a pedestrian crossing across Albany Highway near Kelmscott Station.
