Land agency reform to support METRONET

  • 22 November 2017

Over the next two years, WA’s two land development agencies, LandCorp and the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority, will merge progressively to help METRONET plan for integrated communities.

The new land agency will assume responsibility for metropolitan planning activities to strengthen communities through increased housing choice, better transport connectivity and enhancing the built and natural environment.

An administrative merger is set to be finalised by 2019 and will involve:

  • Appointing common directors to both boards from January 2018;
  • Creating a standing subcommittee of the joint board to manage the transition of the two organisations into a single entity;
  • Appointing a single CEO to take effect on or before January 1, 2019; and
  • Reviewing all projects, assets and liabilities to optimise efficiencies.

Any necessary legislative changes will follow.

The new land development agency will also include an Industrial Lands Authority arm responsible for removing barriers to investment and identifying new opportunities for industry innovation and expansion.
