Contracts worth more than $7 million have been awarded to a diverse array of Aboriginal businesses across the Thornlie-Cockburn Link and Yanchep Rail Extension projects by NEWest Alliance.
Neerabup-based demolition and excavation company Boodjah Contracting have been contracted to remove asbestos within the Thornlie-Cockburn Link rail corridor as part of preparations for major construction.
Founder, director and Noongar man Al Browning said “Boodjah Contracting has made a solid start, and I hope that one day it will become Western Australia’s most significant and diverse Aboriginal employer.” With the business only beginning operations about 18 months ago, he was hopeful the work on METRONET would lead to more work for his company and other Aboriginal people.
Other Aboriginal businesses awarded contracts through NEWest Alliance so far include Kambarang for cultural awareness training, Expertech for water bore drilling and related items, BCE Boodja for potholing, and Kee Bundu for fuel supply.
Gnarla Biddi (Our Pathways), METRONET’s Aboriginal engagement strategy, guides Aboriginal engagement throughout the planning, design and delivery of its projects, and NEWest Alliance is exceeding Aboriginal procurement targets to date.
METRONET is always on the lookout for local and Aboriginal businesses to provide local skills, knowledge, and jobs on its projects.
If you have a business and are interested in work on METRONET projects, respond to the call and register on our Construction Business Register.
