Building the Yanchep Rail Extension and Thornlie-Cockburn Link is one step closer after legislation was passed by both houses of State Parliament last week.
The Railway (METRONET) Bill 2018, due to receive royal assent, will authorise construction of the rail infrastructure for these two projects, adding significant capacity to Perth's public transport network and sustainably grow our city.
This is a major milestone for the two METRONET projects which have been classified as priority and high priority by Infrastructure Australia.
The 17.5km Thornlie-Cockburn Link will make travelling around the city by train more convenient and improve public transport links to Perth's southern suburbs. The project includes relocating the existing freight lines and building two new stations at Nicholson and Ranford roads.
The Yanchep Rail Extension is a 14.5km project that will deliver the final section of the Joondalup rail line from Butler to Yanchep, with three new stations at Alkimos, Eglinton and Yanchep, supporting the area's ongoing growth as well as reducing congestion on our roads.
Both projects support the State’s forward-thinking vision in investing in strategic infrastructure to both manage the sustainable growth of Perth and better connect our suburbs.
