The first half of the new Bayswater Station will open to passengers after a Midland Line closure from Friday 23 September – Sunday 16 October.
The 24-day shutdown is required to remove and replace about 1.8 km of track and other rail systems, as well as expanding the existing Leake Street pedestrian underpass while continuing work on the new Bayswater Bridge.
With the first half of the new station open following the shutdown, trains will cross over King William Street using the significantly higher new bridge which has had 12 beams installed.
The shutdown will also have some impacts on the Airport Line, the Prospector, AvonLink and MerredinLink services, and the Indian Pacific train, with Transwa services to leave from Midland Station during the closure.
Stakeholder engagement and a linewide passenger survey will begin Tuesday 19 April to better understand the disruption’s potential impacts and plan train replacement services accordingly.
The community can also provide their suggestions and feedback via Building for Tomorrow.
Shortly after trains start running on the new and higher bridge, the infamous Bayswater Bridge will be removed.
More than 340 people had their say on how the Old Bayswater Bridge might be farewelled with ideas ranging from festivals to video montages, food markets and staged truck drivebys will feed into planning to mark the removal of the 1960s bridge.
More details about the community farewell will be released closer to the date.
