New car bays in the heart of Bayswater

  • 26 May 2021

METRONET is providing $236,000 to the City of Bayswater to build more than 20 temporary parking bays in the heart of the town centre to support local businesses during construction.

The new Hamilton Street carpark, located on private land behind the IGA Xpress, will open in the coming months with short-term parking, just one minute walk from businesses along Whatley Crescent.

Access to parking has been a key concern for local businesses during construction and the METRONET project team has worked with Local Member Lisa Baker, Bayswater Traders Association and the City of Bayswater to respond to the community’s needs.

The convenient location means locals can park centrally to collect post and parcels, pick up groceries and support local business while station upgrade works take place over the next two years.

With this funding confirmed, the City of Bayswater will enter into a lease with the private landowner, then finalise design and build the new parking bays.

Once complete, there will be more than 180 parking options in the town centre for visitors, as well as more than 70 bays for public transport users.

Additional passenger bays were installed at Ashfield and Meltham stations before the passenger parking along Whatley Crescent was closed to make way for works on the new Bayswater Station.
