The METRONET Public Art Strategy will ensure the program’s legacy of transformative transport infrastructure is not the only thing left behind across Perth.

The program-wide approach to public art will help link the projects together and the transport infrastructure with the broader community to contribute to the place’s identity. 

Public art plays an important role in the cultural life of places providing social, economic and environmental benefits.

The Strategy will guide public art delivery, drawing inspiration from Perth’s Aboriginal and local culture, history, landscape and place. Artists will develop projects for METRONET responding to the theme of “Our Pathways” and thematically reference Connections and Place.  

Already across the rail network are a number of significant public artworks, such as PTA’s large-scale sculptural work at Mandurah station, The Shirley Shell by Coral Lowry. This Strategy will provide a range of opportunities to build on this tradition.
