TBM Grace breaks through to another milestone!

  • 6 December 2018

TBM Grace has officially reached the halfway point of her tunnelling journey from Forrestfield to Bayswater!  The major milestone was reached on 21 November as she tunnelled over the 3751m mark, with 2130 tunnel segment rings installed.

Since setting off from Airport Central Station in June, TBM Grace has successfully tunnelled her way underneath the airport, clearing both major runways. She has recently tunnelled past the Airport West Emergency Egress Shaft, where she underwent an ‘atmospheric intervention’ – a health check on the wear and tear of the cutting tools of the TBM.

After passing the lowest point of tunnelling since leaving Airport Central Station (25m underground and 17m below sea level) she is now ascending towards Redcliffe Station, where she is expected to arrive late-February.

As always, trailing at a safe 300m distance behind TBM Grace is TBM Sandy, due to leave the airside environment shortly.
