Around 7,500 people came together on Sunday, 21 April to celebrate the completion of the new Bayswater Station – and what a celebration it was.
The METRONET Bayswater Station Street Festival kicked off at 11am as the new station became a hive of activity and colour with live music, rides, face painting, showbags, a tree give-away, METRONET prize wheel and delicious food for all.
The second largest train station outside the Perth CBD, the Bayswater Station has been an incredibly complex rail infrastructure project and included:
- demolition of the iconic Bayswater Bridge
- construction of an elevated four-platform station and bridges in a constrained space
- construction of a turnback facility within an operational corridor (live overhead power and train movements)
- connection of three separate train lines into one
- a new bus interchange, car park, bike parking, five public open spaces and 10 tenancy spaces.
Bayswater Station is now servicing the Midland and Airport Lines, with the future Morley- Ellenbrook Line due to commence services later this year.
Thank you, Baysie for helping celebrate this major milestone.
