We asked the people of Perth how they’d like to honour the notorious Bayswater Bridge that’s terrorised truck drivers and caused traffic mayhem for decades…and the results are in!
The overwhelming community response from the more than 340 people was to pay tribute to ‘Baysie Bridge’ through public art and celebrate its removal with a local festival this summer.
We’ve listened and Expressions of Interest are now open for WA artists to get creative and artistically represent the iconic nature of the bridge, its history and the havoc it’s caused.
The commemorative artwork will become part of a showcase of public art pieces set to make the new Bayswater Station a transport and cultural hub for Perth. More details on these artworks will be announced soon.
The first section of the new rail bridge will open later this year and the old bridge will be demolished at the end of the year.
