The METRONET New Midland Station is a rollin’

  • 24 July 2023

Shovels are in the ground and works underway for the METRONET New Midland Station Project, to deliver a state-of-the-art train station in the heart of Midland to meet the needs of the local community.

After more than 50 years, Midland Station will have a new home bringing it closer to the heart of the Midland Town Centre. The new station location will improve connections to Midland Gate Shopping Centre and Midland Health Campus, while maintaining the railway’s central role to enhance work opportunities and community life in the area.

Initial work will concentrate on building the new multi-storey car park, which has meant closing the western end of the station's existing passenger car park. The new five-storey car park will include more than 800 parking bays, freeing up land for future residential and mixed-use development around the new bus interchange.

Preliminary designs for the new station were released earlier this year, showing a contemporary facility that reflects local Noongar culture, the industrial backdrop of the Midland Railway Workshops, and the local landscape.

In addition to delivering quality new infrastructure for the community, the new station will improve connections to the existing retail areas.

The project will also connect the passenger rail network to the new Bellevue Railcar Manufacturing and Maintenance Facility, which will bring significant new employment to Midland.
