Training fast tracks life change

  • 21 September 2021

After years working indoors in a corporate environment, David jumped at the opportunity to train with North Metropolitan TAFE as part of the innovative Infrastructure Ready program as a stepping stone to gain employment and work on METRONET.

“Never in my lifetime did I think I’d be building a train line!” he said. “Halfway through my first day of work experience, through Infrastructure Ready, I was offered casual work and then I was offered a traineeship. I’m now doing Certificate III in Civil Construction working outdoors on the tools.”

David said he really struggled with unemployment and his mental health suffered as a result.

“Changing careers has been amazing. I’ve lost 12 kilos! The physical health benefits of working outdoors have been huge but the mental health benefits of working on a significant project and the comradery of the job site is life changing.”

The State Government is helping Western Australians like David take advantage of these opportunities, while supporting industries essential to economic recovery.
