The METRONET Victoria Park-Canning Level Crossing Removal Project recently welcomed some of its youngest visitors – the curious learners from Goodstart Early Learning Centre in Carlisle.
Captivated by the construction activities just beyond their playground, these young engineers-in-the-making have transformed their cubby house into a construction lookout. Their playtime now includes operating small-scale construction equipment, reflecting their fascination with the project.
To build on their enthusiasm, the project’s community engagement team hosted a special visit, where the children learned about the ongoing construction and future developments. The excitement was evident as the children discovered the importance of high-visibility clothing and hard hats and demonstrated their growing knowledge of safety and the construction process.
The early learners also watched a crane lift structural steel at Carlisle Station, identifying the station’s façade and lift shafts like true professionals.
Although the children were thrilled to hear about the new public spaces, Mungyte Place, Banksia Discovery Trail, Puggle Playground and Oats Street Youth Plaza, that will be created under the elevated rail—they were disappointed that dinosaurs, particularly T-Rex and Stegosaurus, won’t make an appearance underneath the future elevated rail.
