Track laying full steam ahead on the Forrestfield-Airport Link

  • 7 May 2021

85 per cent of track for the future Airport Line has been laid as the project heads closer to completion.

More than 100 workers are involved in the rail infrastructure construction on the project, which has seen nearly 17km of track laid in the tunnels to date.

These works include track laying and installation of overhead line equipment by mechanics, fitters, riggers, rail traction linesmen, engineers, concrete and track workers.

The next major works for the project are the installation of rail systems and signalling infrastructure, including the installation of overhead conductor rail to provide power to the trains.

The first trains on the Forrestfield-Airport Link are expected to run in the first half of 2022.
