Art class takes Claremont back to school

  • 12 October 2021

A partnership between the Claremont Station Project and Scotch College has given students a first-hand glimpse into the art world.

Year 10 Visual Art students at the College were visited by local artist Jennie Nayton, who has been commissioned to create a mural for the newly built pedestrian underpass as part of the project.

Jennie spoke to the students about the process behind developing a meaningful concept and the complexities of installing public art. Students were also able to ask about working on a construction site and coordinating a team of people, and view some of Jennie’s work.

The partnership aligned with the school’s Visual Art curriculum and helped students with an assignment that required them to present an art proposal for a public art piece on campus.

Installation of Jennie’s mural is underway, which will reflect Claremont’s rich history.
