Career Goals Right on Track

  • 8 April 2022

Environmental Undergraduate Yukio Chaplin is right on track to achieve his career goals after working on the METRONET Thornlie-Cockburn Link Project through the CareerTrackers Aboriginal internship program.

Yukio’s fascination with science, conservation and the environment began as a child growing up in Broome and the diverse range of experience and skills he has gained working onsite has helped him move one step closer to his dream job.

“I belong to one of the language groups in Broome and I am intrigued by the possibility of one day using my environmental degree to provide advice and guide my community in making decisions about our land and country,” Yukio said.

“One highlight of my internship was seeing a group of aspiring Aboriginal engineers visit the Alkimos Station site as part of the METRONETs Yanchep Rail Extension. It helped reassure me that the trail you blaze is there for others to follow.

“When I graduate, I hope to apply my knowledge and draw from my experience on METRONET projects to work with Aboriginal groups in the Kimberley on the rangers’ program for the proposed marine sanctuary. This is one way I can give back to the community that raised me.”
