Giving back to the Midland community

  • 15 December 2023

Throughout 2023 the New Midland Station Project team has worked with local community groups to give back by supporting various causes.

The team kicked off with donations of easter eggs for Swan City Youth Service which operates a drop-in youth centre and provides a variety of programs and support for the wider Midland area. In a more sustainable gesture, the project donated marri branches to the Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre which were saved during clearing within the project zone.

The project also donated a stump from the favourite tree of a participant at a nearby autism support service for use as a garden seat.

Donations of significant items found within the project site were welcomed by the Midland and Districts Historical Society and the Machinery Preservation Club of WA Inc. These included telegraphpoles from the original station and a vintage generator.

Local families made homeless by domestic violence have received baskets of toiletries and other essential items thanks to generous donations from the team working on the New Midland Station Project. The items were collected and accepted gratefully by the City of Swan for distribution to local women’s refuges Koolkuna and Nardine.
