A group of 35 civil engineering students from Curtin University got an up close and personal look at the new METRONET Byford Station that has recently received the first 6 Star Green Star rating for Design.

Members of the Curtin Civil Engineering Association (CCEA) also attended the tour, bringing their textbook knowledge to life.

The group visited Byford Station and the Larsen Road pedestrian bridge, giving them a front-row seat for the engineering and construction activities.

The project team provided an overview of the Project’s scope, station design and sustainability features. The students had the opportunity to watch the planning and precision involved in complex lifts when they watched a dual crane lifting a beam into place for the pedestrian bridge structure.

Throughout the visit, students spoke with Project Managers, Supervisors and Engineers, soaking up insights on how textbook concepts come to life on-site.

A CCEA representative highlighted that students left with fresh perspectives and a deeper understanding of where their pathway might lead them. The visit wasn’t just about connecting the dots between theory and practice; it also fired up the students to explore career possibilities in civil engineering.

The METRONET team was excited to show off their work and inspire the next generation of engineers.
