Building community connections in Alkimos

  • 10 July 2023

More than 23,000 cubic metres of material have been excavated as we build key road connections in Shorehaven Estate at Alkimos near the METRONET Yanchep Rail Extension Project.

The existing Maroon Avenue and Pardo Street are being extended to connect with the newly constructed Alkimos Drive Bridge, located about 150 metres south of Shorehaven Estate.

As Project Manager Stephen Nicolay explains, the connections are a key priority for the project as teams focus on finalising the road-over-rail bridges and clearing the way for rail installation.

“Once complete, the connections will provide residents, schools and aged care facilities in the area with uninterrupted access across the rail line, and also pave the way for future developments.”

The connections require a huge interdisciplinary effort with earth works, retaining wall, bridge and utility service teams all working closely together to deliver the package of works.

Approximately 400 metres of existing underground services like power, water, phone, gas and internet will be decommissioned and replaced with 1.3 kilometres of new installations, which will either run through the Alkimos Drive bridge or under the rail corridor. Major works will also be undertaken at the bridge over the next few months so it can be completed and open to traffic towards the end of the year.
