With Infrastructure Australia now adding the Morley-Ellenbrook Line to its Infrastructure Priority List, there’s no denying how important this project is to Perth, and specifically those living and working in our north-eastern suburbs.
In a decision made on 7 April 2020, the independent national body recognised the Morley-Ellenbrook Line will improve integrated transport options in the area, reduce car dependency and improve liveability by encouraging focused development around stations and improving access to jobs. The evaluation found the project has good strategic merit overall, particularly in the long-term.
Infrastructure Australia commented that, in addressing the assessment criteria, it was evident the METRONET Office undertook a comprehensive options development and assessment process.
Final planning approvals are underway, and the project is well into procurement with two companies recently shortlisted to deliver the main package of works. The contract is expected to be awarded in late 2020.
