Thornlie-Cockburn Link piles through 2020

  • 4 December 2020

Construction of the Thornlie-Cockburn Link is in full swing with large scale works underway at various project sites.

Major works to form the foundations of the future improved Ranford Road Bridge are under way. A 120-tonne piling rig, currently on-site, will drill 156, 18m deep holes, which will be filled with concrete.

The new bridge will have six general traffic lanes, bus lanes and a shared path on each side.

Down the line at Thornlie Station, upgrade works are underway including bulk earthworks to turn Thornlie Station into a through-station.

The 14.5km link will connect Thornlie and Cockburn Central stations to serve the current and future growth occurring between the Mandurah and Armadale lines. Two new stations at Nicholson Road and Ranford Road will address gaps in public transport in these communities.

The project will also provide a direct link to special events at Optus Stadium for Mandurah Line passengers.

The first trains are expected to run in 2023.
