Transperth has awarded Volvo Bus Australia the tender to deliver 900 new buses over the next 10 years.
The $549 million investment supports expanding the fleet in line with various METRONET projects coming online over the next few years. The Forrestfield-Airport link is due for completion at the end of next year and the Yanchep Rail Extension and Thornlie-Cockburn Link are due to start construction at the end of this year.
The new fleet will have USB charging points, meet Euro6 emissions standards and will be fully accessible aligned with METRONET’s wider vision of ensuring public transport is an efficient and comfortable way to get around.
With a strong focus on transit-oriented developments and clever land use planning around new station precincts, the investment in buses will complement the investment in rail infrastructure and ensure the best network will be available to service increased demand for public transport as Perth grows.
