Bridging travel for wildlife

  • 8 September 2021

We’re building three green bridges at Ningana Bushland and a fauna underpass at Alkimos Parks and Recreation Reserve as part of the Yanchep Rail Extension, so animals can continue moving safely through the significantly vegetated area.

To recreate a native habitat on the bridges, plants will be carefully selected to provide shelter and food that is consistent with the surrounding landscape.

Local animals, such as the Western Brush Wallaby and Southern Brown Bandicoot will use the green bridges and underpass, which will include fencing to guide fauna to cross the rail line safely.

Once the green bridges are complete, a monitoring program that includes the use of cameras will be established to assess their success.

The green bridges will also support firefighting vehicles in the event of a bushfire emergency.
