Over 50 Noranda residents put on their art smocks in late January and became ‘artists for a day’,  working with local artist Mel McVee to bring a community touch to the Noranda pedestrian underpass.

With paint brushes poised and colourful house paints at hand, participants of all ages channelled their creativity in the ‘painting by numbers’ session and covered the grey underpass walls with vibrant images of the native flora and fauna of nearby Lightning Swamp.

The wetland-themed mural is one of 19 public art pieces that will feature across the five new stations on the METRONET Morley Ellenbrook Line Project, making it the largest art collection commissioned on a METRONET project to date!

Delivered under the METRONET Public Art Strategy, the artworks reflect and celebrate the unique environment of each station, as well as Noongar culture and connection to Country, to make them welcoming areas for local communities while supporting emerging and established artists.

The 21km Morley-Ellenbrook Line is Perth’s largest public transport project since the Mandurah Line and will give people living and working in Perth’s north-eastern suburbs more transport choice.
