Historic Tree to relocate in Bayswater - METRONET

Historic Tree to relocate in Bayswater

  • 24 May 2019

Overlooking the Bayswater Town centre for over 80 years, the historic Kurrajong Tree will soon be relocated.

Perched on the corner of Coode Street and Whatley Crescent, the tree currently resides in an area which will become the eastern entrance for pedestrians and cyclists to the upgraded Bayswater Station.

Acknowledging the importance of the Kurrajong tree to the local community, the project team, in partnership with the City of Bayswater, will relocate it to the decommissioned playground in Bert Wright Park, a short 200m down the road.

To prepare for the move, the Kurrajong tree will first have its roots trimmed and be closely monitored and cared for over the winter months to keep it as healthy as possible for the big moving day later this year.

The move will be quite the show with the Kurrajong tree lifted onto a mobile crane and transported upright along King William Street, passed from the mobile crane to another stationary one in Bert Wright Park and finally planted in its future new residence.
