Public transport patronage on the rise

  • 3 September 2019

More people are enjoying Perth’s award-winning public transport network with an additional 1.6 million trips taken in 2018-19.

Thanks to an improving local economy and Transperth patronage campaign encouraging people to take a break from driving, patronage has increased by 1.15 per cent with trains recording 1.6 per cent growth and bus boardings rising by 0.92 per cent.

The Mandurah Line also recorded its best year since record levels in 2012-13, with around 20.9 million trips recorded in 2018-19. All the stats for the patronage numbers can be found on the Public Transport Authority website.

Much like when the Mandurah Line was introduced, these numbers are expected to increase after METRONET Stage One has delivered around 72 kilometres of new passenger rail and 17 new stations to the network.

With works starting on a number of projects later this year, METRONET is set to offer more choices for how people can travel around Perth.
