Sustainable approach to rail

  • 28 July 2022

Sustainability is a passion for Amanda Joseph and one she’s lucky enough to weave into her work life in her role as Sustainability Advisor on the METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line Project.

Amanda is responsible for helping achieve the best economic, environmental and social outcomes to meet the project’s sustainability ratings*. This ensures business is done in a way that allows current generations to meet their needs, without impacting the ability of future generations to meet theirs.

The fast-paced job is challenging and making sure various teams in the project are maximising opportunities for positive social, economic and environmental impact, and minimising any potential negative impact, is key.

“It’s essential to keep across the many innovations taking place on the project and keep lines of communication open so we capture every opportunity to implement sustainable work practices,” Amanda said.

“Working with a team so committed to sustainability is a real highlight of the job, as is seeing the impact of my work come to life. This role has deepened my passion for biodiversity, natural capital and sustainable finance - all areas I hope to delve into further in my career.”

Amanda’s advice to anyone thinking of a career working in the rail industry is simple, do it!

“This is my first experience working in the rail industry and with the huge variety of job opportunities, I would encourage anyone with a passion for the environment or sustainability to get involved.”
